– « Je suis désolé, mais le mariage risque de ne pas avoir lieu. Vous devriez appeler la fiancée ».

Mais bien sûr. La veille du mariage, je vais prendre mon téléphone pour demander à la fiancée si elle est sûre que son mariage aura bien lieu ! Je crois que je n’ai jamais été aussi paniqué de ma vie de photographe. Mais comment faire ? Heureusement, Maria et Emerick avaient choisi de recourir aux services d’une wedding planner. Il ne me restait donc plus qu’à prendre contact avec Nathalie.

Il y avait effectivement un problème majeur. Pour des raisons administratives, le mariage tel qu’on l’entend habituellement n’aurait pas lieu. A la place, le prête célèbrerait une bénédiction du couple.

J’étais vraiment désolé pour Maria et Emerick, et en arrivant le matin du mariage, j’imaginais retrouver une Maria dévastée, les yeux rougis d’avoir pleuré toute la nuit. Mais il n’en était rien. C’est une Maria guillerette que j’ai retrouvé dans sa chambre d’hôtel, décidée à passer une très bonne journée quoiqu’il advienne.

En me saluant, Maria m’explique brièvement que son mariage n’en sera pas vraiment un, mais qu’elle n’est pas affectée. Tout irait bien. Wow ! Si je m’y attendais. Je crois que je n’ai jamais croisé une mariée aussi Zen.

Et de fait, la journée s’est déroulée sans accro. Et nous avons eu le privilège d’être les seuls à assister à l’échange des alliances dans le cadre magnifique du Golf des Trois-Îlets.

Maria est heureuse. Ça se lit dans ses yeux. Peu importe la paperasse, peu importe le lieu où elle a échangé ses vœux. Emerick est son mari et rien de pourra venir troubler leur bonheur.

Alors on leur souhaite longue vie. Longue vie à votre couple Maria et Emerick.

– « I’m sorry you know, but there may not be any wedding at all. You should call the bride ».

Yeah, right. I’m gonna call the bride, on the day before her wedding to ask her if she’s sure her wedding will take place! As a photographer, I had never been in such a state of panic. What was I supposed to do? Fortunately, Maria and Emerick had chosen a wedding planner to help them on the D day. I had nothing to do but to give Nathalie a phone call.

Indeed, there were a major issue. For some administrative reasons, the priest would not marry the couple, but would instead bless them in a kind of religious engagement.

I felt so sorry for Maria and Emerick when I arrived to Maria’s room, in the morning. I had imagined her devastated with red eyes for having cried all night long. But I was wrong. Maria was pretty cool as she had decided that everything would be ok, whatever happened on this day.

She waved me hello, and explained to me « Emerick and I will not have a ‘real’ wedding but I’m fine. Everything will be alright. » Wow. What a surprise! I had never met so cool and zen a bride.

And indeed, everything went smooth and easy. Pako and I even had the honnor to be the only ones who saw them exchange rings, in the gorgeous golf area.

Maria was happy. One could see it in her eyes. Paperwork did not matter. The place where they’d exchanged vow did not matter either. Emerick was her husband and nothing could ever alter their happyness.

Maria and Emerick, we wish you to be happy for ever after.
